Girl Scouts 2007On January 6, 2007, Chapter 99 again joined forces with Flight Safety International to help about 30 local Girl Scouts obtain their Aerospace Merit Badge. Activities were spread between our meeting room, a hangar, several aircraft outside, and two classrooms at the Flight Safety Academy across the road. Subjects covered at Flight Safety were Women in Aviation careers, navigation and aircraft weight and balance. At our meeting room the girls practiced flying a flight simulator, received instruction in theory of flight and in pre-flighting an aircraft, and saw an aircraft under construction. Responsible
members from Chapter 99 were Marty, Keith
G. with the help of Jim M., a student from Flight Safety,
and two female instructors from Flight Safety who talked about Women in
Aviation. John demonstrated aircraft construction on his
Zenair
701 project. Ken M. and Bill Z. both brought their airplane
out for pre-flight instruction. Gene and Vernon made sure everybody
got his/her fill in refreshments. To read what the local press wrote about this event,
